There’s something about the hush of a newborn session – soft light slipping through the curtains, the gentle squeak of a yawn, the rhythmic hush of mama’s voice nearby. But what you don’t always see in those final images is everything happening just outside the frame: a quiet hand only inches away, a photographer moving slowly, listening with her whole body, attuned to every little sigh or stir.
Newborn photography isn’t just about creating beautiful images. It’s about protecting something sacred. Every baby who passes before my lens is not a “prop” or a pose waiting to happen – they are the artwork. They’re already enough, just as they are.
As a certified baby-led newborn photographer here in Hudson WI and the St. Croix Valley, safety is not a line of fine print in my process. It is the foundation.
Let me take you behind the scenes of how I keep the tiniest humans safe and comfortable in every session at Alabaster Photos.

When I first stepped into the world of newborn photography, I remember seeing all these highly posed images of sleeping babies curled into baskets or tucked in impossible little folds. I didn’t know how those poses were achieved – I just knew deep in my bones that they didn’t always feel natural, or safe.
Early on, I attempted a “baby in the bucket” shot. It’s one of those viral poses that looks serene. But after educating myself further – listening to industry experts, diving into safety-focused mentorships, and becoming certified through APNPI – I learned the risks involved if poses like that aren’t done with proper support and compositing. That moment became a turning point. I let go of what wasn’t aligned with my values and embraced what was: baby-led photography rooted in softness, presence, and care.
Every session now begins not with a setup, but with listening.

Newborns tell us so much, even in silence. Here’s how I keep your little one safe, warm, and wholly respected throughout your session.
I will never force a pose. Your baby’s cues come first, always.
These real, unforced positions are not only safer but more meaningful. They reflect who your baby is, in this moment, as they are.
Typically, it’s mama who hovers close during the session – one hand always ready, always steady. And I welcome that completely.
You’re not just encouraged to stay near – you’re essential.
My space in Hudson is quiet, cozy, and intentionally curated for newborns:
Each element is chosen not for style alone, but for calmness and safety – an extension of the womb, of home, of love.

Too often, new parents come to me with unease in their eyes. Maybe they’ve seen photos that feel beautiful but performative – or heard of photographers who rushed the process, valued the look more than the life. That will never be the case here.
Because what we’re doing in your newborn session isn’t performing for the camera. We’re honoring these quiet first days. We’re preserving your baby just as they are – not contorted, not accessorized heavily, but with reverence.
This is your legacy. And it deserves to be built on trust.

At Alabaster Photos, my sessions are slow, calm, and filled with gentle guidance – not pressure. Every newborn who comes into my hands is treated with the same tenderness I would offer my own.
If you’re an expecting or new mother here in the St. Croix Valley, and you’re longing for a newborn session that feels as peaceful as it does beautiful, I’d love to walk alongside you.
Let’s create images that feel like a deep breath – safe, heartfelt, and everlasting.
