There’s a quiet ache that comes with those early newborn days. Time slips like water through tired hands, and amidst the feeding rhythms, the soft coos, and the fog of sleepless nights, a small voice inside whispers, “Don’t forget this.” That’s where newborn photography steps in – not just as an art form, but as a way of honoring what matters most.
But here’s the truth not often spoken out loud: photography with newborns shouldn’t begin with lighting or lenses. It must begin with safety.
As a certified and trained newborn photographer serving Hudson, New Richmond, and the greater St. Croix Valley, keeping babies safe isn’t simply something I do – it’s the very heart of how I create.

There’s a pose that makes the rounds on social media sometimes – a froggy style or potato sack wrap that may look “adorable,” but behind the polished frame, there’s often a compromise being made that I simply won’t entertain.
I’ve studied with APNPI (Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International) and trained under mentors committed to best-in-class safety standards. What that means for you: every movement, wrap, and moment in my sessions is child-led. Because no image is worth risking a baby’s wellbeing. None. Ever.
There was a session not long ago where we were coasting gently through the shoot, when baby started to show signs of discomfort in the swaddle. We could have pushed through. Some photographers might have adjusted quickly and carried on, trying to catch a smile. But we stopped. We shifted. We let baby lead the way. Because their comfort is the only true roadmap.

Not all parents walk into a newborn session knowing what to expect. And not everyone realizes how many poses trending on Pinterest are, quite frankly, unsafe. But you shouldn’t have to know these things. That’s my role – to guide you with care, integrity, and protection every step of the way.
Here’s what I want you to know before you arrive at my studio:
There are several positions I simply do not offer in my sessions:
Instead, we stay close to baby’s biological cues. If they stretch, we follow. If they curl, we pause in their rhythm. Flexibility doesn’t reduce beauty – it enhances it.
Newborn photography should feel like an extension of caregiving, not a performance. I move slowly, speak softly, and never rush or force a baby into a posture that isn’t fully supported or aligned with their comfort.
This isn’t about staging perfection; it’s about witnessing truth. And when your baby feels safe, that’s when the real moments happen – the flutter of lashes, the scrunch of a sleepy yawn, the way their fingers wrap instinctively around yours.
I often see parents walk in, still swimming in new-parent nerves, wondering if it’s okay that they don’t have it all together. Let me say this clearly: looking “ready” isn’t a requirement. Your only job is to show up and hold your baby in that quiet way only you can. I’ll handle everything else.
You don’t need to memorize safety rules or guess what comes next. I’ve built this space for you to rest while I create with tenderness and intention.

What we’re doing during a newborn session is so much more than snapping pictures. We’re preserving a piece of history. And that kind of work must happen with deep respect for the life unfolding in front of the lens.
Because 20 years from now, when your child holds these prints in their grown-up hands, I want them to see themselves – not posed artificially, but held in love and gentleness from the very beginning.
Because newborn photography isn’t about showing off. It’s about remembering.

If you’ve been searching for a Hudson WI newborn photographer who values safety over trends and connection over composition, you’ve found the right place. I’m not here to mold your baby into a pose. I’m here to follow their lead, protect their peace, and help you feel calm, confident, and filled with wonder through every step of the process.
If you’re expecting or recently welcomed a little one, now is a beautiful time to plan your newborn session. You can learn more about my approach and availability at www.alabasterphotos.com or reach out directly with your questions. I’m here to walk with you – gently, always – through this tender chapter.
Let’s create images that feel as safe and sacred as the love that brought your baby here.
