If you’re in the early months of pregnancy, especially those cool, quiet mornings of January or February, I know what you’re carrying is more than a baby. You’re holding hopes, questions, maybe a little nervousness, and a longing to slow down time just enough to soak in the beauty of it all.
One of my favorite maternity stories began with a message from a mom who reached out at four months along. She didn’t want to bounce between photographers, always feeling like a stranger in front of a new lens. She wanted a constant – someone who would get to know her family and walk with them through all their chapters. We had months to prepare, and because of that, everything flowed. Her maternity session lasted just 20 minutes – truly – and felt easeful and natural. We’ve been capturing her family ever since. They’re now awaiting baby number two.
That comfort didn’t happen by accident. It started with a decision to plan ahead.

The third trimester sneaks up fast. One day, you’re carefully pinning nursery inspo and choosing a stroller… then suddenly, you’re timing contractions. I see it happen all the time. Clients hope to wait “until I feel more ready” or “a little further along” to book, and before they know it, we’re scrambling to find a date that still fits – or worse, baby comes early and the window for maternity images quietly slips by.
In my approach at Alabaster Photos, I recommend scheduling your maternity session during weeks 30 to 34. This timeframe offers the perfect balance: your bump carries that round, beautiful curve, but you still have the energy and comfort to enjoy being photographed. Physically and emotionally, these weeks tend to be the sweet spot.
Just between us: I’ve had more than one mama go into labor before a scheduled shoot at 38 weeks. Your story deserves to be documented in a way that feels joyful, not rushed.

I often hear moms say, “I don’t feel beautiful right now.” Or, “Can I really do this in the dead of winter when I’m just tired and swollen?”
Yes, you can. And you absolutely should.
Because this season – the way you carry this life, the light in your eyes, the way your partner looks at you with quiet wonder – it matters. It isn’t about perfection or posing, it’s about presence and legacy. These aren’t just pictures. They’re part of the story you’ll tell your child years from now when they ask what it was like before they arrived.

If you’re due in early 2026, now is the perfect time to reach out and claim your spot on the calendar. I’ll walk you through the process gently and patiently – from wardrobe guidance to session timing to soft, simple posing that feels like you.
