As a Wisconsin Family Photographer and being a mom of two myself, I know becoming a mom is a beautiful, challenging, and transformative journey. It’s filled with moments that tug at your heartstrings, make you question your abilities, and leave you in awe. Amidst the sleepless nights, diaper changes, and endless cuddles, there are some crucial things every new mom should know. Being a mom of two crazy-beautiful girls, I am providing insights to help you navigate this incredible adventure with confidence and joy.

Self-Care is not Selfish and it will benefit your family

Remember, taking care of yourself is essential for taking care of your little one. It’s easy to get lost in the whirlwind of motherhood, but remember to carve out moments for yourself. Whether it’s a soothing bubble bath, a few pages of your favorite book, or a short walk in the park, prioritize self-care. A rested, happy mom is a better mom. That CAN look like you getting nap trapped and watching YOUR favorite show while your little one sleeps (this one way I made it through Grey’s Anatomy!).

Seek Support and Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

It’s okay to ask for help, whether from family, friends, or professionals. Motherhood is a team effort, and there’s no shame in leaning on others during challenging times. Join local mom groups (I am a sponsor for the New Richmond Mom’s Group), seek advice, and share your experiences. You’ll be amazed at the strength that comes from a supportive community.

Wisconsin Family Trust Your Instincts

You’ll encounter a lot of conflicting advice, but remember, you know your baby better than anyone else. Trust your instincts and do what feels right for you and your little one. Whether it’s feeding, soothing, or choosing the best parenting approach, your intuition is a powerful guide. I had a fantastic pediatrician that told me I was in survival mode with a newborn and that our family needed to do whatever we needed to in order to get through those days.

Embrace Imperfection Wisconsin Families

Perfection is an elusive goal. It’s okay if things don’t go as planned, if the house isn’t spotless, or if your parenting journey has a few bumps along the way. Embrace the imperfections, learn from them, and remember that being a loving, caring mom is what truly matters.

Celebrate Milestones (Big and Small), be a photojournalist

From the first smile to the first steps, every milestone is a treasure. Don’t just wait for the big moments; cherish the small ones too. Take note of the little victories, the heart-melting giggles, and the moments that make your heart swell with pride.

Prioritize Sleep (Yours and Baby’s)

Sleep is a precious commodity for both you and your baby. Establish a calming bedtime routine, create a comfortable sleep environment, and don’t hesitate to nap when your baby naps. Quality sleep will make a world of difference for both of you. I utilized white noise (I still do) and darkening shades.

Wisconsin Families Be Kind to Yourself

Motherhood is a learning experience, and no one gets it perfect all the time. You’re doing an incredible job, even on the days when it feels tough. Remember to celebrate your victories, big and small, and offer yourself the same grace and understanding you’d give to your baby.

As you embrace this incredible journey of motherhood, know that you are not alone. There will be ups and downs, but the love you share with your little one is a powerful force that will guide you through it all. Cherish every moment, and believe in the strength and resilience you hold within. You’re already an amazing mom, and your baby is lucky to have you by their side.
